The ‘I Am Music’ album fails to release, and fans of Playboi Carti demand that he be punished

Playboi Carti has been called out by his own fans after he failed to release his third album I Am Music.

Playboi Carti has faced criticism from his own supporters for not releasing his third album, I Am Music.

Although Carti has not disclosed a release date for the highly anticipated project, all indications suggest it will come out before the year’s end, similar to his last release Whole Lotta Red, which was released on Christmas Day of 2020.

Following the album’s absence on the last Friday of 2024 — the usual release day for many new albums — a disgruntled fan initiated a petition to “ban” the rapper from all streaming services.

The petition, currently boasting over 3,000 signatures, states: “Playboi Carti has repeatedly misled and let down his devoted fans with false assurances regarding album launches.” Most recently, on December 14, 2023, he confirmed to fans that a new album would be released in 2024.

“Since that time, rather than fulfilling his promise, he has merely shared fragments, uploaded sporadic tracks on YouTube and Instagram, and has not delivered the album he guaranteed.”

It goes on: “Tomorrow/Today marks the final Friday of the year, the customary day for new music releases, yet there is still no indication of the expected project.” This ongoing pattern of unmet promises shows a disregard for his fans’ time and loyalty.

“We seek responsibility.” This petition demands that Playboi Carti be prohibited from all music platforms until he fulfills his promises and shows sincere dedication to his fans. If artists can’t maintain the trust of their audience, they shouldn’t be permitted to benefit from their loyalty.

“Add your signature to this petition to convey that fans merit more,” it finishes.

Although Playboi Carti hasn’t spoken about the status of I Am Music or the criticism related to its postponed release, producer Mike Dean encouraged fans to be patient.

After an Instagram user urged him to “tell Carti to drop,” Dean — allegedly credited as a producer on the project — responded: “Carti will release it when he’s ready.” Not a moment later. “Hold on.”

Akademiks emphasized that it’s definitely still in the works, stating to his audience on Rumble: “I reached out to Carti a few times […] I’m pleased we didn’t set a date, but it is indeed on the way.”

The anticipation that I Am Music might drop before the close of 2024 was heightened by Playboi Carti’s recent headline act at Rolling Loud Miami.

The 29-year-old showcased a variety of tracks from the forthcoming album at the festival, featuring partnerships with The Weeknd and Metro Boomin.
