If you believed that Squid Game season 2, which broke viewing records upon its release, would remain at the top of Netflix’s top 10 list for weeks on end, you’d be mistaken. At least that’s the case in America, where it has recently been dethroned at #1 by WWE Monday Night RAW, the latest addition by Netflix that will be broadcasting for an extended period, and I do question whether it will maintain the top position consistently or if it’s merely for its debut here.
The premiere of RAW lasts an impressive 183 minutes, exceeding three hours, and included appearances from The Rock and several others for the significant occasion. In contrast to other Netflix series, one of the conditions in this case includes standard commercial breaks.
Similar to the previous RAW, this will indeed be broadcast weekly for, well, ten years. Indeed, that’s the agreement Netflix secured, which is said to be valued at more than $5 billion. Indeed, billion, with a B. We’ve hit 1,650 episodes of RAW, and we’re soon to have hundreds more available on Netflix. I will definitely be quite bored if it continues to reach number one every single week.
Squid Game, undoubtedly, continues to perform exceptionally well. We are still waiting for its first week numbers, which should arrive soon, and I anticipate they may set records just like the early premiere did. Squid Game is set to return for its third season in 2025, with a possible premiere as early as June, based on a brief leak of the information from Netflix itself. It will wrap up and transition into Netflix’s other major releases coming later this year, Stranger Things season 5 and Wednesday season 2. Among all three of these, along with RAW and other surprising successes, this could become a landmark year for Netflix.
The remainder of the list features Missing You, a fresh crime drama that has performed quite impressively and has only been surpassed by Squid Game, which is commendable. Virgin River and No Good Deed remain in the latter part of the list, as does the tidal wave drama La Palma. At the bottom of the list is Black Doves, the major success from late December, along with the newly introduced The Equalizer featuring Queen Latifah.
RAW is set to usher in a brand new era of live content for Netflix, and regardless of your opinion on professional wrestling, this is a significant development for the platform. We will observe how it unfolds from this point onward over the next full decade.
