Cast member Chloe Fineman responded to Elon Musk‘s recent criticism of Saturday Night Live (SNL) by recalling her own difficult encounter with Musk when he was the show’s host in 2021. Chloe jokingly reacted to Musk’s apparent displeasure with SNL in a TikTok video on November 11 by writing, “You’re obviously watching the show.” For example, what are you discussing?
The 36-year-old Fineman hinted that Musk was the anonymous celebrity host who her co-star Bowen Yang had previously said was making “multiple cast members” cry because he didn’t like their sketches. Chloe went on to affirm her own challenging experience, saying, “I’m the cast member that he made cry.”
She clarified that Musk dismissing her work was what caused her to start crying. Chloe excitedly asked Musk for his thoughts after describing how she had spent the entire night working on a sketch. However, he apparently gave her a direct response, telling her, “It’s not funny,” as he stared at her in a manner that she compared to “firing me from Tesla.”
Musk apparently proceeded to page through Chloe’s script, saying, “I didn’t laugh,” despite her expectation that he would temper his criticism. “I never once laughed.” Despite the fact that the sketch eventually made it to the broadcast, Chloe expressed her displeasure by this frank criticism.
In her sketch, Musk did give a “really funny” performance, but Chloe implied that his actions made an impression, saying, “Have a little manners here, sir…” She emphasized in her comments that she believes the cast should be treated with dignity, even by a celebrity host.
The same week, Musk had criticized comedian Dana Carvey’s recent impression of him on the Nov. 9 episode of SNL. He commented that Carvey’s portrayal “just sounds like Dana Carvey,” downplaying the quality of the impersonation.
Musk also voiced his opinion on SNL as a whole, saying the show has been “dying slowly for years” and was “increasingly out of touch with reality.” His comments stirred further debate over his relationship with SNL and its cast.
E! News has reached out to Musk’s PR team at Tesla for comment on the story but has not yet received a response.
