Sir Elton John recently said that his continued eye problems have caused him to put off working on a new record. The iconic musician said in an interview with Good Morning America that he has been unable to see out of his right eye for four months due to a serious infection he got in July, which has also impacted his left eye.
Elton clarified that he has been unable to work in the studio due to his visual problems. For one thing, he said, “I can’t see a lyric.” He also said, “I can’t see anything, I can’t read anything, I can’t watch anything,” describing the situation as extremely irritating. Even while he is capable of taking part in interviews and public appearances, he is now unable to film the procedure.
The pop superstar claimed that he feels “kind of stuck” musically since he hasn’t been able to work on the project in a long time. Despite not knowing when his therapy would be finished, Elton stated that doctors are optimistic about his recovery and that he is already undergoing it. “That’s exactly what we’re working toward right now,” he then added.
This setback comes after Elton’s sharing of some very great news during the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame ceremony in November 2023. At the time, he declared that he and songwriter Bernie Taupin, his longstanding partner, had “just finished” a new album. Fans were excitedly anticipating the project’s release, calling it “wonderful” and “full of youth and vitality.”
Since Elton’s last original studio album came out in 2016, people have been eagerly awaiting his next endeavor. His recent remarks, however, imply that the record is still far from finished and that the production has been severely delayed due to his health issues.
In recent months, Elton has made a lot of public appearances in spite of his visual issues. He went to see the premieres of his new documentary, Never Too Late, in Toronto and London. He also sang with Dua Lipa in the well-known duet Cold Heart at her October show at the Royal Albert Hall.
Earlier last month, Elton attended the premiere of his Broadway musical Tammy Faye. His most recent engagement was at the Royal Variety Performance in London, when he sang a song from another theatrical play, The Devil Wears Prada.
Elton has shown resilience in managing his health concerns while doing his public obligations. He has “only limited vision” in one eye as a result of his condition, but he still engages with fans and encourages his artistic endeavors.
