Oasis Cancels 50,000 Resale Tickets Ahead of Reunion Tour

In an effort to counteract excessive rates on unapproved websites, Oasis intends to revoke thousands of resale tickets for their next reunion tour. Live Nation and SJM, the band’s promoters, told BBC’s ‘File on 4’ that they will cancel more than 50,000 tickets for the band’s UK tour dates that were sold on secondary platforms.

Over 10 million fans from 158 countries were waiting in line when Oasis announced their tour in August, despite the fact that there were only 1.4 million tickets available. Due to the high level of interest, a large number of tickets were swiftly resold on several resale websites at exorbitant prices.

In order to prevent scalping, fans were first informed that they could only buy tickets through official channels, Ticketmaster, or Twickets, the authorized resale partner. The limited resale options, according to the band’s promoters, were put in place to avoid ticket touting and maintain prices at face value.

Approximately 4% of the tickets, or close to 50,000, were still available on unapproved resale websites, according to Live Nation and SJM. In an effort to reduce secondary ticket sales, the promoters announced that they would revoke tickets that violated the terms and conditions.

Fans can request a review from the appropriate ticket agent if their tickets were inadvertently canceled. Since up to 20% of tickets on some tours are resold at exorbitant prices, the promoters stressed that their regulations were designed to penalize people who use resale websites for significant financial gain. They also noted that 4% is a comparatively low amount.

Due to the possibility of fraud and ticket cancellations, they advised fans to avoid making purchases from unapproved websites. Citing the legality of ticket resale in the UK, Viagogo, a well-known secondary ticket seller, announced that it would keep selling tickets for the Oasis tour.

In support of the practice, Viagogo business executive Matt Drew pointed out that 2% of Oasis tour tickets are sold on their platform and that they are “serving a clear consumer need.” “They operate in compliance with regulatory standards,” Drew added.

UK laws permit ticket resale, but they also mandate that resale websites such as Viagogo notify customers if the event forbids resale. Oasis tickets were sold at outrageous prices by vendors from a variety of nations, including Hawaii, Brazil, and Dubai, according to File on 4.

Additionally, according to the BBC, a vendor in Brazil was advertising several tickets for each tour date, while a trader in Hawaii was reselling 27 tickets at £793 each. There were also resellers from Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, and other parts of Europe.

A Viagogo ticket was posted for £11,000, and a StubHub ticket was sold for an incredible £119,000. Some of these resale prices were outrageous. The promoters reaffirmed their caution to fans regarding the dangers of making purchases from these kinds of vendors.
