‘Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ Greenlit for Season 3 on Prime Video

Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 3 has been greenlit on Prime Video.

“The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” has received a renewal for Season 3 on Amazon Prime Video.

The renewal comes as no shock, given that Season 2 concluded with significant cliffhangers that hinted a third season was bound to happen. The second season of the “Lord of the Rings” prequel debuted on Prime Video on Aug. 29 and concluded on Oct. 3. It concluded with Sauron (Charlie Vickers) gathering an army of orcs and triumphing over the elves at their fortress Eregion. Yet, the elves and dwarves are united against the dark lord, wielding their own strong rings to resist him in Season 3.

The third season is currently in pre-production at its new location, Shepperton Studios, located just outside London. Filming for the new season is anticipated to start this spring.

“‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ keeps enchanting viewers across the globe, and we’re excited to announce that a third season is in progress,” stated Vernon Sanders, head of television for Amazon MGM Studios. “The creative team possesses an exceptional vision for the future with narratives that have captivated and fascinated us.” We eagerly anticipate carrying on this remarkable journey for our worldwide clients, exploring further into the iconic stories that formed Middle-earth.

Charlotte Brändström, a co-executive producer and director for several episodes in Seasons 1 and 2, will serve as an executive producer and director in the third season. Sanaa Hamri will return to direct, with experienced director Stefan Schwartz also joining the series.

“The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” is praised for the work of showrunners and executive producers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay. Lindsey Weber, Justin Doble, Kate Hazell, and Brändström serve as executive producers as well. Matthew Penry-Davey serves as the producer, while Ally O’Leary, Tim Keene, and Andrew Lee take on the roles of co-producers.
