Singer Katy Perry is embroiled in a legal battle over a California property purchase four years ago against an 85year old military veteran who is now in a psychiatric hospital. The singer’s new decision to seek $5.5 million in damages didn’t generate much excitement on the Internet.
Katy Perry seeks $5.5 million
In 2020, Katy signed a contract to buy a Santa Barbara estate from Carl Wescott for $15 million after an initial offer of $13.5 million. But In Touch Weekly is now reporting that Katy has filed court documents alleging that Carl owes her more than $5.5 million for damages to the house.
In 2020, Karl sued Katy’s business manager, Bernie Goodwy, claiming that the contract should be void because “at the time of the agreement, he was taking high amounts of medication for back surgery.” However, Katie refused to back out of the contract, and in 2023, the court ruled that her claim was correct and ordered the house to be handed over to her. However, the singer said the house had been badly damaged for three years and demanded money for repairs. The parties are preparing for the second phase of the trial, during which Kathy will defend her right to damages.
