Judy Greer declined the “Modern Family” audition

Judy Greer disclosed that she was unsuccessful in her attempt to audition for the part of Claire Dunphy on "Modern Family."

Judy Greer disclosed in a recent episode of the “Dinner’s on Me” podcast that she turned down an audition for the part of Claire Dunphy on “Modern Family.”

Greer informed “Dinner’s on Me” host Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who played Claire’s brother Mitchell Pritchett on the popular ABC sitcom, that she was invited to audition for the role of the Dunphy family mother. The role eventually went to Julie Bowen, who played the character throughout the show’s 11-season duration and won two Primetime Emmys for her role.

Greer observed that, at that stage in her career, she was beginning to portray characters who had children. “In a film, individuals somewhat observe it and then they let it slip from memory,” she remarked. “In a television program, it’s essentially as if you’re a mother.” “That’s all.”
