John Krasinski, a former employee of The Office, was revealed as People’s “Sexiest Man Alive” for 2024 during an appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on November 12. In response to host Stephen Colbert’s remarks about Krasinski’s compassion and thoughtfulness as reasons for winning the prize, the actor joked, “I think it’s that—and the biceps.”
The 45-year-old actor reflected on his initial reaction to the surprising title, telling People that he went “blank” at first and questioned whether he was being played. He quipped, “I don’t wake up thinking, ‘Is this the day I’ll be named Sexiest Man Alive?'” and that the title has really elevated his standards.
Actress Emily Blunt, Krasinski’s wife, expressed her excitement at the news. The couple has two daughters, Hazel and Violet. Blunt even joked that his kids would think it “totally normal” that he would put his magazine cover as wallpaper in their Brooklyn house.
Krasinski echoed his wife’s response, saying, “It was very joyful for me to tell her.” He said he feels “lucky to go through all that with her” as he reflected on their relationship and talked about the joy of developing and evolving with his spouse.
“After this, she’ll make me earn it at home,” the Jack Ryan star said, hinting that his new title would entail more domestic duties. He chuckled about how he might end up with extra housework as a result.
Last year’s “Sexiest Man Alive,” Grey’s Anatomy star Patrick Dempsey, who took home the title in 2023 and voiced his own astonishment, is replaced by Krasinski. Dempsey remembered the incident humorously, saying, “I was totally shocked. I’ve always been a bridesmaid!”
Dempsey revealed that his family laughed when they received the news, exhibiting a similar response. He claimed that his children’s response when he appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! was, “No seriously, who is it?”
Dempsey, 58, was amused by the distinction but also expressed gratitude, saying it provided him with a “platform to use for something positive.” Chris Evans, Paul Rudd, and Idris Elba are recent winners of the “Sexiest Man Alive” title, and each of them brings a unique personality to the position.
In addition to Krasinski, additional winners were recognized in this year’s People reader-voted categories, including “Sexiest Summer Action Star” and “Sexiest Fiyero.” This title went to Jonathan Bailey, who most recently played the legendary Fiyero in Wicked.
The “Sexiest Handy Man” award went to HGTV celebrity Chip Gaines, who defeated contestants Ty Pennington from Rock the Block, Jonathan Knight from Farmhouse Fixer, and Jonathan and Drew Scott from Property Brothers.
The “Sexiest First-Time Dad” title went to Robert Pattinson, the Twilight actor who recently became a parent. Earlier this year, Pattinson and her partner Suki Waterhouse had a baby girl.
Jacob Elordi, star of Saltburn and Euphoria, was also voted the “Sexiest New Heartthrob.” Overtaking other well-known performers like Nicholas Galatzine from Red, White & Royal Blue and Gavin Casalegno from The Summer I Turned Pretty, the 27-year-old will be starring in a new Frankenstein production.
