Francisco San Martin, Actor from Days of Our Lives, Passes Away at 39

Francisco San Martin—a Spanish actor known for his roles in various soap operas like Days of Our Lives and The Bold and the Beautiful—passed away on Jan. 16 at his residence, as reported by Deadline. He was 39 years old.

As reported by the outlet, the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office stated that the cause of his death was suicide.

San Martin was born on the Spanish island of Mallorca and later spent his childhood in Montana, according to the publication. He went back to Spain as a teenager, residing in Madrid, where he started modeling and enrolling in acting classes before ultimately being cast in Spanish theater, television, and film productions.

In 2011, San Martin was featured on Days of Our Lives as Dario Hernandez, a small-time criminal who is found to be looking into an unresolved case. San Martin depicted Hernandez for six months before the character transitioned to Argentina, with Jordi Vilasuso subsequently playing Hernandez in 2016.

The actor also experienced storylines on The Bold and the Beautiful and Jane the Virgin. In the earlier work, San Martin played the role of Mateo, the groundskeeper of Forrester Manor, who quickly found himself caught up in one of Sheila’s plots.

In Jane the Virgin, San Martin starred alongside Gina Rodriguez as the character Fabian Regalo del Cielo, who featured on the same telenovela as Jane’s father, Rogelio. San Martin featured in the third and fourth seasons of the show—which also included Justin Baldoni and Brett Dier—and his character had a short love affair with Jane.

Another credit of the actor includes the 2013 television film Candelabra.

After hearing about San Martin’s passing, Camila Banus—one of his co-stars from Days of Our Lives who played his sister Gabi—expressed her sorrow on social media.
