The enduring animated show by Seth MacFarlane is set to return to the late-night lineup in 2025, beginning with a three-day marathon that launches on Jan. 1, featuring consecutive episodes that will air from 7 p.m. ET/PT until 5 a.m. Thereafter, episodes will be broadcast every weeknight from 10:00 to 11:30 PM ET/PT.
“Family Guy” first aired on Fox in 1999, but it was discontinued after only three seasons because of poor ratings. The emerging Adult Swim started broadcasting reruns of the series, attracting significant viewership. This, along with DVD box set sales, prompted Fox to bring the show back in 2005. It is currently in its 23rd season, having launched a holiday special on Hulu on Oct. 14 and another on Nov. 25.
“Family Guy” departed Adult Swim when its license lapsed in 2021, after which reruns transitioned to FXX, establishing it as the show’s sole cable home for its off-network airing. The updated deal with Adult Swim is non-exclusive, indicating that reruns can still be broadcast in other places.
The adventures of the peculiar and dysfunctional Griffin family are the main focus of “Family Guy.” Peter (MacFarlane) exists in a constant state of blissful ignorance alongside his homemaker wife Lois (Alexandrea Borstein) in their residence in Quahog, Rhode Island. They have three children: Meg (Mila Kunis), the misfit; Chris (Seth Green), the clumsy teen; and Stewie (MacFarlane), the genius baby with murderous tendencies. Also, there’s Brian (MacFarlane), the talking dog who sips cocktails.
The initial seasons of Family Guy were heavily shaped by Adult Swim, and Michael Ouweleen, the president of Adult Swim, shared his enthusiasm for the show’s comeback in 2025. “We’re thrilled to have ‘Family Guy’ returning to our channel as a fantastic enhancement to the incredible lineup of animated originals we have scheduled for next year.”
