According to industry insiders, the couple moved to England and plans to sell their Montecito, California home. DeGeneres representatives have not responded to demands for confirmation.
According to The Wrap, sources close to the comedian and the Arrested Development star indicated that the couple is unlikely to return to the U.S. permanently. Separate reports from TMZ claimed that the decision to leave was made immediately after Trump defeated Vice President Kamala Harris in the election, with the pair wanting to “get the hell out” of the country.
DeGeneres and de Rossi have reportedly settled in the Cotswolds, a rural yet aristocratic region in the U.K. Social media posts last week showed the couple enjoying live music at a local pub, alongside performers like The Corrs and celebrities Natalie Imbruglia and James Blunt.
Although their move may have been prompted by Trump’s victory, other people speculate that DeGeneres is looking for a new beginning following her dramatic decline in popularity in Hollywood. There was a lot of reaction in 2020 after accusations of a hostile workplace atmosphere were made on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. After 19 seasons, DeGeneres finally shut down her daytime talk program in 2022.
DeGeneres has also publicly expressed her feelings of exclusion from the entertainment world. She has been “kicked out of show business” in recent interviews and seems to be removing herself from the limelight.
