Billboard announced on Tuesday that Beyoncé has been recognized as the greatest pop star of the 21st century as part of an ongoing series.
Andrew Unterberger of Billboard commented, “Beyoncé leads our editorial ranking selected by the staff due to her extensive 25 years of influence, impact, and evolution.”
In their assessment, the article stated that Beyoncé’s ranking at the forefront of their list arises from the record-setting Grammy-winning artist being a performer and creator “whose dedication to innovation, evolution, and overall excellence has established her as the benchmark against which all other pop stars of this century have consistently been compared” throughout the last 25 years.
Beyoncé is the artist with the most Grammy wins, holding a record of 32 awards, and – after receiving 11 additional nominations for her 2024 album “Cowboy Carter” – is anticipated to collect more trophies in January.

Additionally, the “Texas Hold ‘Em” singer has a lengthy history on the Billboard charts. She has 24 songs in the top 10 on the Hot 100 including nine No. 1 hits. Since her 2003 solo debut, “Dangerously In Love,” eight of her albums have achieved the number one spot on the Billboard 200 album list. Beyoncé’s solo albums have hit the top 10 on the Billboard charts eleven times since her prior success with the girl group Destiny’s Child.

Starting in August, Billboard has been compiling their staff selections for the top 25 pop artists over the last 25 years. The publication’s selections are artists whom they think have significantly shaped pop stardom and have “exemplified pop greatness” since the start of the new millennium.
Taylor Swift came in at number two on Billboard last week, and Rihanna came in at number three.
Adele, Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, Kanye West, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, and Drake complete the top ten.
Pop singers Bad Bunny, The Weeknd, One Direction, Miley Cyrus, Eminem, Usher, and others are ranked in between Katy Perry, who is in 25th place.
