Kim Kardashian’s dress selections have the ability to stir up controversy. Kim wore an antique amethyst necklace that was once worn by the late Princess Diana at a 1987 charity event at the recently concluded 2024 LACMA Art + Film Gala in Los Angeles. Kim wore a white gown with a low neckline that accentuated her cleavage and a huge crucifix necklace. Kim also accessorized her ensemble with an ivory coat that was off-the-shoulder for the occasion. Winged eyeliner, brown eyeshadow, a nude lip, and a sleek haircut parted to the left completed the reality TV star’s appearance.
At this event, the former cast member of Keeping Up With the Kardashians reportedly wore the Attallah Cross for the first time in public after purchasing it for just under $200,000 at a Sotheby’s auction in 2023.
Many people on social media were not pleased with Kim’s outfit selection. Many quickly labeled her appearance as “sleazy” and “tone deaf” due to her dress choice.
One person wrote, “She turned it into something vulgar,” on X. “She was so bold as to wear it with this clothing. Another user wrote, “Very tone deaf, uneducated, narcissistic, ugly brain.”
About the pendant
In the 1980s, Princess Diana frequently borrowed the necklace, which was named for its previous owner, Palestinian-British businessman Naim Attallah.
Diana, Princess of Wales, was famously pictured wearing the pendant on a pearl strand while wearing a purple velvet high-neck Catherine Walker gown at the 1987 Birthright charity banquet.
The Attallah Cross, which was first created by Garrard in the 1920s, has 5.25 carats of circular-cut diamonds encircling square-cut amethysts.
Diana wore her similar pearl choker, which had 900 pearls, to a number of occasions, such as movie and theater openings.
