With a fashionable twist, Angelina Jolie is returning to the red carpet with her trademark grace!
When the 49-year-old actress debuted her film Maria on Saturday, October 26, at the AFI Film Festival in Los Angeles, she looked stunning as usual in a long, nude-colored silk gown and a light black jacket in the shape of a shawl.
Her wavy hair, however, was a surprising change from her typical red carpet look. The actress usually wears her hair straight or in a stylish updo when she walks the red carpet, even though she wore curls in the September CR Fashion Book. On October 26, however, she chose to wear her hair in enormous beachy curls with a side parting.
Jolie accessorized her new red carpet style with bold red lipstick, drop earrings, and little eye makeup—just a hint of black eyeliner and eyeshadow. For the eye-catching red carpet appearance, she matched her manicure to her lips, sporting vivid red nails.

Jolie portrays the late opera soprano Maria Callas in the biography directed by Pablo Larraín.
The movie “follows the American-Greek soprano as she retreats to Paris after a glamorous and tumultuous life in the public eye,” according to a synopsis, and it follows the singer “in her final days as the diva reckons with her identity and life.”
Famous for her three-octave soprano vocal range, Callas passed away in Paris in 1977 at the age of 53 from a heart attack. Jolie trained for months to play the well-known singer.
Jolie told PEOPLE on the red carpet on October 26 how she related to the role and how she sees similarities between Callas and herself.
“I know there are certain things that people would assume from the distance that we have in common, but I think what we have in common maybe is that we share a certain loneliness in kind of sometimes doing our work where we’re the one, I don’t know, up at night, alone, trying to figure something out,” she told PEOPLE. She continued, “I don’t want to speak too much about it because it’s too personal, but there’s definitely a loneliness and a work ethic.”
“I may be a lot of things, but I work really hard, don’t you think? Despite my flaws, she and I both put in a lot of effort at work. I don’t know whether she or I would ever consider ourselves anything other than performers and workers with a job to do, and we’re probably quite hard on ourselves,” Jolie went on.

The movie won a standing ovation at the New York Film Festival in September. Jolie wore a white vintage Madame Grès gown from Mon Vintage in Paris as she walked the red carpet with her three children, Pax, 20, Zahara, 19, and Maddox, 23, before to the screening.
The Oscar winner recently attended the Toronto Film Festival, where her film Without Blood had its premiere.

The war drama’s director, Jolie, looked stunning in a black silk gown by Dolce & Gabbana with ruching at the bottom. She accessorized with opera-style silk gloves that reached her elbows for extra glitz.
She wore no jewelry and parted her long golden hair down the middle.

Jolie’s 20-year-old son Pax, who served as an associate director on the movie, also joined her. On the red carpet, he matched his mother’s style by donning a black suit and tie and dark shades. He joined the audience in congratulating Jolie and the cast of the movie after the screening.
